Does it hurt?
Most clients describe it as a 3 or 4 out of 10 — less than a regular tattoo, more like a light scratch. Different parts of the scalp are more sensitive than others (the front and temples especially), and numbing options are available.
How many sessions will I need?
Most clients need 2–3 sessions, spaced 7–10 days apart. Each session is 2–4 hours. We build colour and density gradually — it's almost impossible to fix SMP that was rushed into a single visit.
How long does SMP last?
Around 4–6 years before any touch-up is needed. SMP fades very slowly and very evenly — unlike a tattoo, the pigment is designed to lighten gracefully over time. When you eventually want a touch-up, it's typically a single short session.
How much does it cost?
Most treatments fall between $1,500 and $4,000 depending on coverage and complexity. Scar work and corrections vary more — you'll get an exact, no-pressure quote after sending photos through the quote form. Flexible payment plans are available.
Will it look fake or like ink?
Done well, no. Done quickly or by an inexperienced artist, yes — which is why correction work is a growing part of the practice. The difference is in dot size, depth, density, and pigment matching. That's where eight years of focused experience shows.
What about dark skin tones?
SMP works on every skin tone — pigment is custom-mixed for each client to match how the ink will heal in your specific skin. Black, brown, olive, fair — we've treated all of them. Photos in the gallery show a range.
Will it cover my transplant scar?
Almost always, yes — FUT strip scars and FUE punch dots both respond very well. Scar tissue takes pigment differently than healthy skin, so it takes a careful hand, but it's one of the most rewarding parts of the work.
Can I exercise after a session?
Take it easy for the first 3–4 days — no heavy sweating, no swimming pools or hot tubs, no direct sun on the scalp. After that you're back to normal. Full aftercare instructions go home with you after each session.
I've had bad SMP elsewhere. Can it be fixed?
Almost always. Some corrections are additive (we build around what's there), some need laser removal first, some are a mix of both. Huber specialises in this work — send photos through the quote form and you'll get an honest plan back, including a realistic timeline.
What if I don't like the result?
The first session is intentionally the lightest — we build up, not down. You leave with something close to a soft buzz effect, and we adjust shape, density, and tone in sessions 2 and 3 based on what you actually see in the mirror. By design, you're never locked into a decision you can't refine.
Do I need to be bald to get SMP?
No. Density SMP works between existing hair to give the appearance of thicker hair — you keep what you have. It's especially effective for crown thinning and diffuse hair loss.
